Story in brief:
Castleford Tigers have been boosted ahead of their Carnegie Challenge Cup tie against local rivals Featherstone Rovers with the news that prop forward Jacob Emmitt has signed a two-year contract extension until the end of 2014.
Sought after by a number of rival Stobart Super League clubs, Emmitt, 23, joined the Tigers as a Super League Grand Finalist with St Helens following the 2010 season and has proven a cornerstone of the Cas' pack since. He won the club's Forward of the Year award last year and has been an ever present so far this season.
Delighted to have secured Emmitt's services, soon after the contract extension of fellow front row Jonathan Walker, head coach Ian Millward said:
"It's fantastic news on the back of Johnny Walker signing last week. We're really excited to have him. Jake plays good minutes, is always developing his game and is only 23 years of age.
"It's a big plus for the club moving forward and for the rest of the season."
On signing the contract extension Jake said:
"It's great to be here, I'm really happy it's all done and dusted.
"Basil has things going in the right direction, he's looking at bringing the right people into the team and I'm really happy here. There was never much doubt about me staying,
"I'm glad I can now concentrate on moving forward and hopefully having a successful year.
“We've had a good Easter and hopefully we can build on our momentum going into the rest of the season. Last year we were at the top of the league by round 10, but didn't make the play-offs.
“This season is still in our own hands and we're hopefully going to make the play-offs by ending the season strongly and hopefully by Saturday night we’ll be in the next round of the Cup."
