Story in brief:
Castleford Tigers are now in a position to officially confirm the signings of former New Zealand International centre Jake Webster and Hull FC scrum half Jamie Ellis for next season.
Capped eight times by the Kiwis, Webster, 28, has signed a three-year contract and will bring a wealth of experience to Castleford. He has scored 31 tries in 87 Stobart Super League appearances for Hull KR since arriving in East Yorkshire for the 2008 season. He has also played in the Australian NRL competition with Melbourne Storm and Gold Coast Titans and was in the Kiwis side that won the Tri-Nations against Australia in 2005.
23-year-old Ellis has signed a two-year contract with Castleford. He will join the club from Hull FC where he has made 10 Super League appearances. A former St Helens junior, it was with Leigh Centurions, under the coaching of now Tigers boss Ian Millward that he won the coveted Championship Player of the Year award. He also won the Man of the Match award and scored a brace of tries in the Centurion's Northern Rail Cup Final success last year.
Speaking of the signings, Millward said:
"I was looking for a specialist centre with experience and Jake ticks both boxes. He is a damaging runner and can create fear in opposition's attack with his defensive qualities.
"I believe the paring of him and Michael Shenton; two specialist International centres will be up there amongst the best in Super League next year.
"Jamie is a player I think has an abundance of talent, he has a wonderful kicking game and is a player who has played regular Super League with Hull this year. He reminds me very much of an Australian style half back who likes to take the ball to the line."
Webster and Ellis are the Tigers second and third signings repectively for next season with St Helens' England International centre Michael Shenton having signed a four-year deal earlier this month. All three will play out the remainder of the current season with their exisiting club's before joining up with Cas for pre-season.
