Tigers Capture Seymour

Story in brief:

Castleford Tigers have completed the signing Australian half-back Brett Seymour on a one-year deal.

Castleford Tigers have completed the signing Australian half-back Brett Seymour on a one-year deal.

The 28-year-old will join the Tigers ahead of the 2014 Super League season and revealed he is eager to return to action and impress for Cas following his release from former club Hull FC in April.

Seymour joined Hull ahead of the 2012 season and went on to play 28 times, scoring seven tries. Before that he spent 10 years in the NRL with Brisbane Broncos, Cronulla Sharks and New Zealand Warriors.

Head Coach Daryl Powell said: "Brett is a quality individual who I have been really impressed with after meeting him.

"He is excited by the opportunity of playing at Castleford and his game will be ideally suited to the way we want to play next year.

"I am really looking forward to working with him next season. I know that he has a lot to prove, but that brings out the best in people and I am confident that it will in Brett."

Brett Seymour said: "I can't thank Steve Gill (Tigers CEO) and Daryl Powell enough for giving the opportunity to put things right.

"The way it ended at Hull wasn't nice but I've got things sorted in my personal life which is the main thing.

"I've got to prove a point and that's out on the paddock. I'm healthy, raring to go and ready to be back playing and I'm happy to be here at Castleford."

Seymour revealed that the Tigers' passionate support was one of the main factors for him choosing to come to Castleford next season.

"I've attended a few Cas games of late and having played here before I have felt the great atmosphere.

"The fans are very vocal and they know their game. I'm hoping that they will be cheering me on and I'll certainly be doing my best for them."

The Aussie believes that reaching the play-offs in 2014 is a realistic target with the quality and depth of the Tigers squad next season.

Seymour also said that he brings a different style of play to the team to that of the departing Rangi Chase and he will be working closely with Daryl Powell in pre-season to get the best out of him.

"The loss of Rangi Chase is huge for the place and community, but I think that we've got enough talent coming in and here already.

"I won't be looking to fill his boots; I have a different style to him and the coach and I will work on things.

"It's a huge year, we have nearby rivals breathing down our necks and we feel that we have got to put them in their place and that we deserve to be here.

"We've got enough talent and I'm sure that we'll be up there vying for a place in the top eight; it will be our goal and that's where we will want to get.

"I've watched the last few games and from what I've seen I think that we can certainly make a real crack of it."
