Castleford Tigers joined the Rugby League in 1926 having previously been a successful junior club and since 1927 has always played home games at the current stadium on Wheldon Road which will be known as The Mend-A-Hose Jungle in 2014.
The Tigers have grown into one of the most famous Rugby League Clubs in the United Kingdom and has consistently produced players who have achieved worldwide status in the game of Rugby League while playing in the famous black and amber colours. 32 players have become Great Britain Internationals and 29 have played for England, plus numerous other representing county and other international countries.
As well as a successful team on the field, the off-field operation boasts a pro-active and forward thinking set up which includes the Tigers Trust, the community arm of the club which has charitable status.
The region has always been, and continues to be a rich nursery of Rugby League talent, competing at the top level whilst being centre of its local community.
International players from the area include legends such as half backs Alan Hardisty & Keith Hepworth, who starred for the club in the 1960's to early 1970's, Malcolm Reilly who made his name at the club before becoming a legend of the game internationally and John Joyner who is the player to have represented the club most with 585 + 28 appearances.
Arguably the greatest achievements in Castleford Tigers history, have been four Wembley Challenge Cup victories in 1935, 1969, 1970 & 1986.
Daryl Powell was appointed Castleford's Head Coach in May 2013.
Powell, a former England stand-off who was also capped 33 times for Great Britain, previously spent the last four-and-a-half years as Head Coach of Featherstone Rovers who he lead to the Championship League Leaders' Shield in 2010, 2011 and 2012 and the Championship Grand Final in 2011 while also being named as Coach of the Year in 2010 and 2011. He had also been the Assistant Coach of the England Rugby League during 2011.
Before being appointed as Head Coach of Featherstone in 2008, Powell enjoyed a successful playing career which included stints at Sheffield Eagles, Keighley Cougars, Leeds Rhinos, Australian sides Balmain Tigers and Gold Coast and New Zealand's Glenora. It was at Leeds where after Powell hung up his boots in 2001 he took up the position of Head Coach and took them to a Challenge Cup Final in 2003. There he also had spells as Youth Development Manager and Director of Rugby before being appointed as Head Coach of the Ireland team.
For the 2014 First Utility Super League season the Tigers will have one of their strongest senior squads in a number of years, with a number of experienced players to add to a fantastic blend of young talent to make a deep and talented squad.
Daryl Powell's key man could include one of the nine new signings; Luke Dorn, Andy Lynch, Marc Sneyd, Liam Finn, Frankie Mariano, Scott Wheeldon, Ashley Gibson, Michael Channing or Brett Seymour.
Australian powerhouse winger Justin Carney was the Tigers' leading try scorer with 21 tries from 20 appearances, while captain Michael Shenton is an England international with bags experience and skills.
